We spent the long Labor Day weekend in San Francisco. We actually house swapped for the very first time since signing up for a house swapping website a few months back. House swapping is so worth it now that we have Mia. Hotels are still doable but way more difficult with a 15 month old with a 7 pm bedtime and 2 naps a day. And we are able to do a lot more traveling not having to pay for the cost of a hotel. We lucked out because our home away from home was located on Russian Hill right in the center of it all. We were just a short walk from Fisherman’s Warf and Pier 39. We had a beautiful view of Coit Tower and the entire bay. We had parking with the house so we just parked the car and walked all weekend. We took Mia to the Bay Aquarium and she loved seeing the fish. She kept saying “fsshhhh” all weekend. It was also fun to hang out with Tim’s sister Charity and her boyfriend Jason who don’t live too far away. Mia had endless toys to play with at the house since the family also had a child. She loved riding around in their red car and speeding down Lombard street. What 15 month old actually drives her own car down Lombard street? It was a pretty funny sight. The Chinese tourists also thought it was quite a sight as they all started getting right in Mia’s face snapping away with their cameras. A little awkward to say the least. I actually made Tim walk in front of her red car on some of the steeper streets as I was pretty sure the plastic handle would pop off and she would be flying downhill and that would be the last of her. We were also really close to China Town and North Beach and of course had delicious meals from both of those areas. We were able to take advantage of free babysitting two nights in a row thanks to Tim’s sister. We ate at a great Italian restaurant in North Beach one night and headed out for ice cream the next. What a blessing! We will definitely be doing more house swaps in the future. Our first was a total success!
